Week of 1/15/18
Reading:
Since we have missed a few days because of snow, we are trying to catch up!
We have been working on finding the main point an author is trying to make and finding evidence to support that point. If you would like to help your child, you can read through their homework with them and have them identify the main point the author is trying to make.
Tuesday and Wednesday of this week we will continue to work on finding the main point of a non-fiction text and then finding evidence to support that point.
Thursday and Friday-We will review for the 2nd Case 21 using various games
**Case 21's start next Tuesday.
Skills we have already covered that you can review with your child: (all should be in their reading/writing notebook)
Inferencing
Main idea and supporting details (2 or more main ideas and at least 3 details to support)
Finding the main point and using evidence to support it
Finding the Theme-literature/poetry
How does one thing in a story relate to another thing/event
Comparing and Contrasting 2 or more events/people/ideas
Non-fiction Text structures
**IN CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER:
I have sent a reading passage home with 10 question on it. Students need to complete this reading passage. If they do not have it for whatever reason they can use the following online resources to help them practice their reading skills.
Resources:
NewsELA.com-pick any article on at least 700 L to read and answer the questions
Wonderopolis.org-pick an article to read and do the vocab challenge and the quiz
Readtheory.org
They also can use their reading/writing notebook to study the skills we have covered.
Social Studies:
We have finished our unit on the American Revolution. You child should have turned in a rough draft writing project on this as well as a final draft. They know if they have turned it in or not. I gave them an extra week to have this completed as we were out of school for a few days.
Our next Unit will be about the United States government which will lead into our trip to Washington DC
